YouTube Medicine for the Sick Boy

by Amy on January 17, 2012

Ozzie’s not a kid to plunk down in front of the TV, but he’s happy to climb up on my lap to watch a little YouTube while I try to beat my high score on Bejeweled 3. Normally this occurs while mom or dad is consuming the first cup of coffee of the day. Not this weekend. Or should I say, the past six days. The poor little guy’s had fever and ear infections and general toddler discomfort that he can’t verbalize. We found that the only thing we could really do to stave off his general distress is cycle through our YouTube favorites. We’ve watched so much YouTube over the past few days that I think if I glance up at the YouTube shortcut in my bookmarks bar I’ll start bleeding out of my eyes.

Despite the fact that I have well over 100 videos bookmarked on the Media Macaroni YouTube channel, Ozzie has grown tired of ones that were old favorites, like Elvis Costello singing with Elmo, the school buses doing wheelies, and all of OK Go’s videos. As we clicked through the list, he would see the first few seconds of a video and then bat wildly at the mouse in disapproval. Six days later, here are a few that he’ll still watch in their entirety.

Thank goodness for Recess Monkey, though their “Grandmom” video has fallen out of favor, with their new video for “Flapjacks” taking its place.

Another song that we love and that Ozzie still enjoys is this fantastic ska song about cleaning your room.

And, oddly, Ozzie will watch Charles Phoenix making the Cherpumple pie cake over and over again. We’ve talked it over and we’re totally making it for daddy’s birthday.

Do you have equally awesome parenting behavior when your kid is sick?
