Jump Up (It’s a Good Day)
Despite receiving a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best Children’s Musical Album, I have to admit that Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could was new to me. What can I say? Some things slip through the cracks. I’m glad we know about Brady and the band now, though.

We received a copy of their latest CD, aptly named Here Comes Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could, as well as ticket to their Symphony Space concert on Saturday. What a fun crash course. Brady Rymer is a little bit country and a whole lot rock and roll. My first impression while listening to the album is that the music is more family music than kids’ music – the kind of album you can pop in on a Saturday afternoon, knocking back a beer while the kids dance around.
Listening to the music at the show, I realize that even though the music is eminently enjoyable for parents, it’s perfectly suited for kids. I particularly like the song Look at My Belly for highlighting that universal thing that kids do – lifting up their shirts to show how full they are.
Kids flanked the stage like groupies, and were even invited on stage for the last song. The song Jump Up (It’s a Good Day) really does get everyone jumping. Here’s a live performance of that song from a different event, thanks to the omnipresent Zooglobble:
Brady Rymer is totally worth checking out both live and on CD, a great time for the whole family.
And a couple notes on Symphony Space. I was checking out some of their upcoming family events, and there are several worth marking on your calendar:
- January 16 – The Jimmies
- January 24 – Jon Scieszka’s Robot Zot
- February 6 – Secret Agent 23 Skidoo
- February 20 – Ralph’s World
- April 17 – The Gustafer Yellowgold Show
