Tidbits from Licensing Show

Today I perused the Licensing International Expo at the Javits Center. If you are unfamiliar with this particular show, imagine if you will a maker of kitchen sponges who dreams of having a specialty line of guitar-shaped sponges branded Guitar Hero. At this show, such dreams become a reality.

Licensing Show is a bit of a hodgepodge that includes blasts from the past (Caspar! Bozo the Clown! Mad Balls! Love American Style!), your run of the mill superstars like Dora and Hannah Montana (I smell another clothing line…), and the 1500 new virtual worlds available for kids. A few things jumped out, though, as things to keep on the Media Macaroni radar.

The Chorion booth had the first snippet of animation from the upcoming Olivia TV show, and I have to tell you, it does not disappoint. The lighting, the wardrobe, the adorable walk cycle of Olivia wearing stripey tights and a red turtleneck – it all points to Olivia being all that we’ll want it to be. You can see the same show reel (and enjoy their other super-cute properties) on the Chorion website.

The Magic Store (creators of Yo Gabba Gabba!) have teamed up with Studio Espinosa to make a pilot based on the recent book Otis and Rae and The Grumbling Splunk. The characters are adorable, and if the show ends up being half as good as Yo Gabba Gabba! we’re in for a treat.

Friends of mine at Scholastic have been up to some good stuff, and I got my first glimpse of some of it. The 39 Clues will be released this year, an innovative connection of books, website, and collectible cards. We can also look forward to some Goosebumps video games coming out this year, on Wii, DS, and PS2.

My little friends April and Eva told their dad to tell me how great Bella Sara is (horse trading cards that unlock a virtual world). I checked it out and scored a couple of horse cards of my very own. I’ll tell you more after I’ve been to the ranch.

And, because I’m a complete nerd:

Amazon: Otis and Rae and the Grumbling Splunk, Bella Sara Horses, 39 Clues: Maze Of Bones
