Tweens and Engineering:#STEMchat Sponsored by Design Squad Nation

by Amy Kraft on November 11, 2012

E is for Engineering, and you can’t spell STEM without it. This week, I’m excited to participate in the November #STEMchat on Twitter, talking all about engaging tweens in engineering.

Join the #STEMchat on Tuesday, November 13 at 9:00 Eastern for an hour of stemmy goodness.

#STEMchat is hosted by The Maker Mom, Kim Moldofsky, and is sponsored by Design Squad Nation. Also joining the conversation are the fabulous bloggers Christy Matte of Quirky Fusion and Beth Blecherman of TechMamas.

And, if you aren’t familiar with Design Squad Nation on PBS, it’s loaded with amazing ideas to try at home. Like a Junior Mythbusters, they try different engineering tasks, perfecting over the course of different trials and testing out different materials, and then they explain the scientific principles at work.

The website is full of things to try with basic household items. Design Squad Nation has some great challenges to try, too, like this recent challenge to build a bridge using only pennies. Kids came up with great solutions.
